Interview: Dylan Rosser Releases Full Frontal TMF Magazine

Whether you consider yourself an aficionado of male photography or just love the sight of a naked man, Dylan Rosser’s latest project is made for you. TMF Magazine (The Male Form) is a new monthly online collection of images and interviews with some of the best photographers and beautiful male models on the planet.  I had a chance to see the first issue of TMF Magazine from cover-to-cover and it’s pretty amazing, breathtaking actually.  This isn’t your uncle’s Playgirl. The photos are stunning and the interviews that accompany them (yes, I read the articles, lol) are equally engaging.  Rosser took some time to answer a few questions about his new baby:

When did the concept for TMF Magazine come into your mind?

DYLAN: I had seen some online/digital fashion magazines popping up here and there. For the most part I was horrified by how badly designed they were. It looked liked the headlines and body copy had just been typed onto the page and no thought had gone into typefaces and layout. Being from a magazine and design background I thought I wanted to give it a go. Off course I have no interest in fashion so wanted to focus on what I felt was a definite gap in the market – A publication focused on “the male nude”. Since I have no writing or editorial skills I wanted to keep the focus on great images and less text. Maybe if I could get a business minded words guy on board the project could expand to be even better in the future.

How do you select the models and photographers that will be featured in TMF Magazine?

DYLAN: The first issue is made up mainly of photographers and models that I know. It was easier to approach them as they knew I would be respectful of there work. Now that the first issue is finished the challenge is to find new talent to contribute. At least now it will be easier to explain what the concept is. The main rule is that no images will feature any fashion/clothing. So the mag is all nudes, full frontal, implied, head shots, etc. Nude does not mean there has to be penis all over the place, just lots of skin.

I love that TMF Magazine has such a strong focus on the artistry of the male physique…something new to magazines. What do you have to say to those conservative minds out there who may unfortunately see this as ‘naked men’ and not something more creative?

DYLAN: Well on some level it is just “naked men”. If you like that kinda thing then this is right for, if you are offended by full frontal male nudity then move along. I hope that these naked images are presented in a way that is tasteful and maybe that will change a few minds.

TMF Magazine is filled with exquisite nude and semi-nude images from yourself and other photographers. What are your hopes for TMF in that genre?

DYLAN: I’m hoping the mag will be a place that photographers and models can display nude work in a totally non sexual context. No ads for gay chatlines, sex advice columns, etc. This is all about the male form and hopefully there are models out there that want to show theirs.

I consider you a pioneer in male frontal photography. When did you first realize the beauty in the male form?

DYLAN: I’m definitely not a pioneer in the field, but thanks for saying so. Maybe my full frontal work seems to get a lot of exposure due to my website TheMaleForm.net and various blogs [like MANofAUSTIN.com] that post my work. My first appreciation of the male physique was probably growing up near the ocean, and at an early age seeing athletic surfers and swimmers.
