These dark and brawny images were created by photographer Miguel Perez Lem. I’m loving how he snapped the raw masculine of 27-year-old Shawn (aka Hewolf). The use of light and texture is wonderful. I really like how the photographer left a scratch on his right cheek un-photoshopped.

“Hewolf” has a passion for modeling, tennis, family and a passion for sharing his journey with the online world. This is from Hewolf’s blog profile:

I have two passions in life: Passion #1: Tennis. I’ve played ever since I was a kid but now I enjoy structured league play and traveling to various cities all over the country playing tournaments. Passion #2: Modeling. I’ve enjoyed a successful “career” and I’ve only been doing it for a relatively short period of time. I’ve worked with wonderful photographers and have enjoyed some amazing exposure in magazines, online publications, and fashion shows. I love my family, including the newest member: my cute and adorable nephew Hunter. He likes the camera just as much as his uncle! :)

The club, which closed for a number of years, recently celebrated the one year anniversary of its reopening and Seymour was there to capture the action, the men and the sexiness.

I have to admit that I enjoy a good stripper – I’m not talking about a ’stand there and sway’ type of working douchebag but a man who puts on a show and has more personality than the underwear around his hips.

Nick GioBarbieri, a writer for Austinist.com, sat down with director Malcolm Ingram and Bob Mould – a bear featured in the film.

On the Bear Lifestyle:

Ingram tells GioBarbieri, “You know what the really interesting thing about the Bear community is that there’s such a universality to it. If you go to Austin, if you go to New York, if you go to London, if you go…there is something distinctly the same about the bear community.”

Mould: “I think with the Bear community, there is a sense of identity that’s really comfortable and really nice when you find it. There’s an attachment to it and maybe it’s because…you know, I’m still figuring out how it’s all evolving sort of in a global sense, the gay community or the Bear subculture.”

On the disappearance of ‘gayborhoods’:

Mould: “Austin has a huge gay/lesbian community—enormous—but, like you said, it’s been integrated for so long because Austin has always been a progressive city. It’s like Austin—and Portland, Oregon is another place—where everything weaves and it’s almost invisible in a way, or transparent maybe.

It’s not iconic like Christopher Street or the Castro or Berlin or things like that. I think generally, in the gay world, that’s a concern. I’m almost 50 and I see there’s very few gay neighborhoods left because of the integration. As the gay communities advanced this cause, it has sort of become seamless, which is a little unnerving in a way.”

Bear Nation premiered on Sunday but you can still catch it, along with Ingram and Mould, on Thursday, March 18,12:30pm at G-Tech.

Not sure what to say except – dayum! – that means “damn!” for all of you non-Texans ;)
