On Thursday, November 20th at 6:30 PM the transgender community of Central Texas and its allies will gather for a vigil at the Austin City Hall Plaza (301 W. 2nd Street) to honor those killed because they didn’t conform to traditional gender norms. The event is part of the internationally coordinated 10th Annual Transgender Day of Remembrance to be held in more than 90 cities worldwide. This is the eighth year that the vigil has been observed in Austin.

The state of New Jersey took up the case last year, and the Attorney General’s office found that eHarmony had violated the state’s anti-discrimination laws.

The company, which was absolved by a court of any wrongdoing, now has until March 31 to launch a new gay dating site; it must also pay the state $50,000, and $5,000 to the man who originally brought the suit, 46-year-old Eric McKinley.

Men with HIV were 2.3 times more likely, while women with the virus are about 1.5 times more likely to develop these other cancers, according to a meta-analysis expected to be presented at the American Association for Cancer Research annual conference outside Washington, D.C. (SFGate.com) California’s Supreme Court plunged back into the same-sex marriage wars Wednesday, agreeing to decide the legality of a ballot measure that repealed the right of gay and lesbian couples to wed in California. Six months after its momentous ruling that struck down the state’s ban on same-sex marriage, the court granted requests by both sponsors and opponents of Proposition 8 to review lawsuits challenging the Nov. 4 initiative. However, the court refused, 6-1, to let same-sex marriages resume while it considers Prop. 8’s constitutionality.

1. Dell Computers - Marketing Manager Spencer Wheelwright personally donated $25,200, making Dell Computers the single largest contributor to H8 in Austin. It should be noted that Wheelwright is also on record for having donated $3,300 to Republican presidential candidates in 2008, so it’s safe to assume that he is more concerned about ending gay marriage than who runs our country. (One more reason to buy Apple!)

2. The Yacktman Funds/Yacktman Asset Management - Between the donations of portfolio managers Donald and Steven Yacktman and Russell Wilkins, this firm donated $24,899 to H8.
3. Los Angeles Dodgers - Austin-based Dodger Jeff Kent donated $15,000 to H8. Show your support for equality by refusing to purchase Dodgers merchandise, memorabilia, and tickets.

4. AT&T - AT&T Labs employee John Erickson donated $10,000 to H8.

5. Land Development Services - Company president and real estate developer Michael Knepp donated $10,000 to H8.
