Review: Mind Bending Music

While the airwaves are filled with sticky, sweet pop in preparation for the summer season, Star 69 Records has pulled the shades ready to stimulate your brain with Mind Control.

The two-disc set from Richie Santana and Peter Bailey is a great relief from some of the over-voiced tracks hitting the scene.

The first disc titled “2 AM” is a cool experience in sound. Featuring tracks from Shlomi Aber, Deetron and others, Santana and Bailey move you from a moonlit after-hours party into a dark but groovy hallway treating you to nice beats with each door that you pass by. Track 9 “Dancing in Darkrooms” is a perfect example.

Disc 2 “5 AM” continues to play with your mind. It begins in a very dark place but soon becomes the bouncier of the two. Names like Ingrosso and Laidback Luke plus Starbucks’ new darling Sia (”The Girls You Lost to Cocaine”) are in the mix creating a perfect pick-me-up to bring you into morning’s afterglow.

If you crave a good dance track and by that I mean one you may hear at a club in Austin then you’ll definitely love Track 10 “Bring It On”. As a matter of fact, I recently used it in a fashion show for Andrew Christian where it was a big hit.

Don’t expect a lot of lyrics; Instead be prepared for beats and sounds masterfully crafted into a collection that will most definitely get your mind if not your body moving.

Mind Control is available for purchase now from Star 69 Records
