Same Sex Couples to be counted by Census

gaycoupleThe 2010 census will for the first time recognize the marriage and relationships of same-sex couples. On Tuesday night Census officials spoke at a meeting at the Mexican-American Cultural Center in Austin to explain how to mark the marital status boxes correctly on the Census.

The decision by The White House to count gay marriages reverses the policy enacted by the Bush Administration.

    That’s great – and about time, too. What’s the point of having a census, if you try to obscure an entire segment of the population?

    I think it will also surprise a lot of people just how many same-sex parents/families there are.
