Time to Test the Testis

Lance RyanBoyd

I just made a doctor’s appt for my annual checkup. It’s not my idea of fun to get poked and prodded by a medical professional but you gotta do what ya gotta do when you cross the over 35 line.

This reminds me it’s time to do a little self exam and you should too… Testicular cancer is a serious threat to all men as they grow older but can be treated successfully if caught early.

Videojug has a great video for men, raising awareness about cancer and while helping ensure you stay healthy at the same time.

Self-Check: How To Do A Testicular Self-Exam

You Will Need

* 1 mirror

Step 1:
Examine yourself using a mirror

Using a mirror, examine the scrotum, looking for any lumps on the skin or swellings inside.

Step 2:
Feel for differences between the testicles

Cradle the whole scrotum and testicles in the palm of your hand and feel for any differences between the testicles. One is usually larger and lying lower and this is completely normal.

Step 3:
Check for lumps and swellings

Use both hands and gently roll each testicle between thumb and forefinger, checking for any lumps or swellings. Be aware of heaviness or hardness in part or all of the testicle. Your testicles should be smooth to touch except for the epididymis, which is a soft ‘sausage’ like tube that lies at the top and back of the testicles and carries sperm to the penis.
