P’ville Man, Former Munchkin Dies
Clarence Swensen (pictured left), one of the original Munchkins from “The Wizard of Oz” died Wednesday at 91. Swensen lived in Pflugerville but was part of movie history in 1939 as one of 125 Munchkins who welcomed Dorothy into the land of Oz. The little stars were honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2007. According to statesman.com, Swensen had been in ill health since suffering a stroke four years ago. Kudos to Austin gay man Philip Knisely for donating his kidney to a co-worker despite the CDC’s policy that bans gay men and women from giving blood, tissue or organs.
